Fall Leaves and Stray Cats

It’s already been a week and it’s only Wednesday. I hope this means the rest of the year will go by smoothly. My daughter’s new computer was defective and the store let us jump through some hoops to replace it. Then in the middle of making dinner on Monday night my microwave decided to die. I mean, it was almost 20 years old, so I guess it was time, but replacing it and driving the old one to the recycle place took more time than I would have liked. Then, on the same night, my Mac decided to crash. After reinstalling the operating software, it seems to be fine, but only time will tell. I’ve never had a bad experience with my Apple products, so cross your fingers for me it was just a fluke. Bad things come in threes, right? Hopefully, I’m done now.

Last week my daughter, my sister, and I went to Maplewood State Park in near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. The leaves were full of reds, oranges, yellows, and browns and were beautiful. It was a bit rainy that day, but I was still able to take some amazing pictures. We spent the afternoon hiking then tried a new restaurant for dinner. It was the perfect day.

There’s a stray black cat that’s been around our neighborhood for the past couple of years. I get really sad about it because I think she matches a poster for a missing cat that’s been up light poles for just as as long. (The owners were smart and laminated them.) There’s no chance I can catch her, she’s too skittish. I buy cat food and put it out and every morning it’s gone. I don’t know if it’s the kitty or the bunnies as I have caught them eating out of the bowl, too. Someone is getting fed at least. For the past few months I put an ice cream bucket of water out for the animals. We had such a dry summer and fall, but it looks like normal fall weather is kicking in. It’s rainy and cool today, perfect for staying inside and snuggling with a cup of coffee and a good book.

Just a quick reminder that if you want to enter the Goodreads giveaway for Cruel Fate, the giveaway ends October 25th. There are over 1500 entries, and I’m so happy people are showing interest in the series! You can find the giveaway here: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/enter_kindle_giveaway/397874-cruel-fate

The second book, Cruel Hearts, will be releasing on the 28th! I’m so excited readers will be able to get their hands on the second installment of this serial soon! It’s on sale right now for $1.99 if you want to preorder it before then, or it will be available in Kindle Unlimited! Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DGM8V82R

That’s all I have for today. I hope you are having a wonderful fall and if you celebrate Halloween, stay safe! We’re going to carve pumpkins this year, but I think I’ll leave the guts in mine and set it out on my balcony for the squirrels. I love feeding those little guys. 🙂

I’ll check in with you soon! Have a great day!

Woodsmoke and Things to Come

She rubs her hand over my jaw, and I turn into her touch. I kiss her, and we stop talking.
I forget everything but how she makes me feel. Like I can do no wrong.
Like I’m the true king of King’s Crossing

October has been a busy month for me! I’m almost done editing the third book (of four) in a series I released a really long time ago. It’s been a bit foreign to read them–there’s not one rich guy in the bunch! But I remember how much I adore small town romance and if you like small town holiday series, I will definitely let you know when the edits are live and are available. I’m thinking of doing something with them for Christmas, so stay tuned for that.

Cruel Fate‘s launch went well, and there’s still time to enter the Goodreads giveaway! Over 1200 people have entered so far. It ends on the 25th and you can enter here: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/enter_kindle_giveaway/397874-cruel-fate

Book Two, Cruel Hearts, will release this month on the 28th. The first three are specially priced during the preorder time period. The first you can still buy for .99, the second is on preorder and will be available after it’s live for 1.99, and the third one is on preorder and will be available after it’s live on December 9th for 2.99. I know buying a long series can get expensive so I wanted to put them on sale for a bit. You can find books 1-6 here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CX7SFGB5

Things here are good and as always, I’m looking ahead. After I revise that old series, I’m going to jump back into my pen name and start working on a standalone book that will be released after my King’s Crossing series is out. We’re talking pretty far into next year now, but it makes me excited for things to come. I’ve decided to table another standalone for now and work on a series that I started during COVID. I have the first two books done, but decisions will need to be made as to how long that series will be. Zane, Stella, Gage, and Zarah kind of wiped me out, and I don’t know if I’m up to tackling another big project like that. We’ll have see how I feel after the New Year. I think four books in a series is a pretty good size, but authors aren’t usually in control of that. We’ll see what the characters say.

I went for a walk the other day, crunching through the leaves. It’s my favorite time of year, and it’s nice to walk in the evening, the cool breeze blowing the scent of woodsmoke around. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing the auroras, but I’m going to have to face facts that I’m just too tired at night and won’t be able to stay up late enough to see them.

That’s all I have for you this week. I’ll leave you with my reminder that my billionaire, ugly-duckling standalone is available to download, either here or from the subscribe page. I hope you enjoy and tell me what you think! I love Brady and Allie. They were really fun to write. Take care!

Sweater Weather and a Goodreads Giveaway

Black male/female couple standing under autumn leaves smiling at each other

For the past four weeks, Minnesota has been blessed with some beautiful weather, and I’ve been enjoying it particularly since this time of year can be very rainy. The sunshine has definitely perked my spirits up, and I hope the weather in your area has been treating you well, too.

The past year and a half was nothing but getting my King’s Crossing series ready to publish. I ate, slept, and breathed those characters, in some way shape or form since 2020, and, more recently, working non-stop so they were ready to finally be released. That takes a lot of time and energy for an author, especially for such a big project like that, and you’d think that after I wrapped those up I would have taken a break. I did, for a little bit, a few days, maybe, but I’m not good at relaxing, I suppose, and decided to go back to 2018 when I published my small-town Christmas series and give them new wrapping and brand new bows. I’m redoing their covers and re-editing them, and I’m hoping I’ll have them ready for a fresh re-launch in December. I’ll keep you updated.

So that’s what I’ve been working on, and I’m not sure what I’ll do after that’s over. A real break is long overdue, but I like writing, so I’ll probably keep working on a standalone I have planned to release next summer after my King’s Crossing series is completely out. That will be a big change, but it will be welcome and I love the characters.

The last thing I wanted to tell you about is Cruel Fate, the first book in my King’s Crossing series, is up for grabs in a Goodreads giveaway! Over a thousand people have already entered, and I’m giving away 100 ebook copies! If you want to enter, even if you downloaded an ARC and want to help pump up my numbers, you can look here: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/enter_kindle_giveaway/397874-cruel-fate

I’m really awed and humbled so many people have shown interest in my series, and a sincere thank you to everyone who has made Cruel Fate‘s launch a success!

That’s all I have for today. I was a little heavy with the posts as my series launched, and I’ll ease up now. I’ll leave you with a picture of a squirrel eating a corncob on my balcony. I love feeding those little guys. They’re so cute!

As always, if you haven’t read it yet, my billionaire, ugly-duckling standalone, My Biggest Mistake is free as a thank you for reading and (hopefully) signing up for the blog. You can find it on the subscribe page, or download it here: https://BookHip.com/CMSVSNK

Until next time!

Preorders and Pretty Things

Fall is almost here, but you wouldn’t know it by the temperatures out there. Even as I’m writing this, it’s 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Though the leaves may be turning, summer is hanging on. I’m not complaining about it–when it gets cold too fast, winter can feel like forever so it’s better to enjoy the sun while you can. I’ve been sitting on the balcony in the mornings, drinking coffee and feeding squirrels. They know who I am and that I have peanuts. They’re getting brave enough to crawl pretty close to me, and it’s one of the highlights of my day.

In more exciting news, Cruel Fate went live Monday! Well, Sunday night because of some odd timing Amazon has, but still, I am so happy to see this series slowly releasing out into the world. It’s $0.99 if you want to pick it up, and it’s available in Kindle Unlimited if you want to borrow it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DGH2SPR6

This is also a good time to say that if you read an ARC of it, you can leave your review! They are slowly trickling in, as you can see, and sometimes it takes a while for people to remember or find the time. I understand, and any review left is very much appreciated!

The others will be live on these dates and are all on preorder now:

Cruel Hearts, Book Two, October 28th, 2024:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DGM8V82R

Cruel Dreams, Book Three, December 9th, 2024
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D14VSJHK

Shattered Fate, Book Four, January 20th, 2025
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DH5C6VTR

Shattered Hearts, Book Five, March 3rd, 2025
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DH8ZF8NM

Shattered Dreams, Book Six, April 14th, 2025
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DH9F6QX3

Book two is on sale for $1.99 and book three is on sale for $2.99. The others are full price. I’m not sure how long they’ll be on sale, but I marked them down so it would be easier to buy the full series.

Right now I’m working on kind of a secret project, and I hope I have something to announce by November. It’s old, something that needs some attention, but after a shine, I hope that my readers will enjoy it.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead!

Autumn Approaches: Grab Your ARCs Now!

The ARC period for the series is over and I have taken down the links. Please check the latest blog posts for updated release dates!

You know in that Richard Marx song Endless Summer Nights, when he sings, “Summer came and left without a warning…” I feel like that’s how this summer was… One second it was here, the next it was gone. (I know he was actually talking about a woman, but let’s pretend he was singing about the actual season for the purposes of this blog, LOL!)

If you want to listen to the song, here you go!

I enjoyed the summer months, for the first time a few years. I was feeling better and we actually had some 90 degree Fahrenheit days. I was able to lay out on my balcony and relax. It was nice. But fall has always been my favorite time of year, and though I’m mourning the sizzling pavement, the sun shining in my eyes, and sweat running down my back, I’m looking forward to crunching leaves, snuggling in sweaters, and sipping hot apple cider.

I’m also looking forward to the release of the first book in my King’s Crossing series, Cruel Fate. If things go well, I’ll have it on preorder by September 9th for a September 16th release day. But that means that my ARC links have to come down, so this is the first of two reminders I’ll post before that happens.

Here are the links:

Cruel Fate, Book One:

Cruel Hearts, Book Two:

Cruel Dreams, Book Three

Shattered Fate, Book Four

Shattered Hearts, Book Five

Shattered Dreams, Book Six

Download from Bookfunnel, subscribe to the blog for reminder emails and posts, and read at your leisure. I’ve gotten good feedback already, and I have a feeling this series is going to be something special. I hope it will. I put my whole heart into Zane and Stella and Gage and Zarah. Read the series and let me know if you love them too.

Thanks for your time, and I hope you enjoy!

Advanced Review Copies are ready!

The ARC period for this series is over and I have removed the links. Please check back to the latest blog posts for updated release dates!

It’s a nice surprise when things don’t take nearly as long as you think they will. It helps that I was able to get a lot done over the weekend, and I finished up what I wanted to get done yesterday. So, I’m excited to say that all the review copes to my King’s Crossing Series, books 1-6 are available through Bookfunnel now.

I made a new page on this website that will answer some Frequently Asked Questions and I included a list of triggers per book. The Bookfunnel links are there as well.

I’d like to remind you that these books are a serial, and you need to start at book one. Books 1, 2, 4, and 5 end in cliffhangers, and that is the main reason I’m giving my readers access to them all at once.

The books aren’t on Amazon yet, and they won’t be until the ARC copies are claimed and I take the links down. Amazon can be a little picky about things like that, so it’s better to play it safe.

I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who is helping me with this. I know it’s a big project, and I appreciate your time reading as well as reviewing.

Here is the link to the page King’s Crossing Series, or you can click the link in the Menu at the top of the website.

Have a lovely rest of your week, everyone!

Welcome to King’s Crossing: A Sneak Peek at Book Six

I have to admit, book six was the most fun to write, and part of the reason it was so fun was because of the friendship that evolved between Zane and Gage. Gage is kind of snarky, sarcastic, and Zane’s quiet, hardened by life and what the Blacks have done to him. He won’t let anyone fuck with his family and he knows he can go to Gage for help, and he does. I like how they interact with each other, respecting each other and working toward the same goal–to keep Zarah safe. There are a few scenes where they’re alone, talking, and their conversations both amuse me and give me some big feelings too.

Here’s what I mean:

Zane’s waiting for me to say something, do something, but hell if I know what. Finally, I shrug. “I don’t know what to tell you. She’s obviously having a problem with me, and what am I supposed to do? Chase her every time she decides we’re moving too fast? Run after her every time she thinks I’m no good for her?”

He meets my eyes. Doesn’t speak until he has every ounce of my attention.

“Yes.”

I blow out a breath. “Fuck.”

Zarah knows what to say if she wants me to leave her alone and she didn’t say it.

“Fine. Did you track her phone?”

“I didn’t want to. I wanted to find her some other way first.”

“Well, your other way doesn’t know where she is. You did put the app on her phone that traces it, didn’t you? When you took it after her breakdown?”

“I might have,” he mumbles, “but only for her own protection.”

–Shattered Dreams, King’s Crossing Book Six, VM Rheault

That scene goes on for a while… I don’t want to give too much away, but this is a great example why book six was so fun. I hope you enjoy their “bromance” too.

It took me a long time to get the ending just right. You don’t end a six-book series without trying to tie up every loose end possible. I ran into that when I finished up my Ghost Town trilogy. That trilogy is over 300,000 words, and I wanted to get the ending just right. I wanted my readers to get a serious book hangover after reading the last book, and I hope I accomplished that.

I took the ending of this book seriously, too, and when I first wrote it, Zarah finished up. It felt good, the way she had the last word. It felt right… until it didn’t. There’s something about an Epilogue that, when stunningly written, can leave a reader wanting more, even if there is no more. I liked the way Zarah’s point of view ended the books, but I realized it ended hers and Gage’s story, not necessarily the series.

So, I took a few days to mull over what I wanted to do about that. Stella started the series, the first chapter of the first book is in her point of view. She’s the catalyst that began the beginning of the end of the Blacks, and so I thought, well, maybe Zane should be the one to wrap things up. Completely. Forever.

There was always one tiny part of book two that was never addressed in the rest of the books, and it niggled at me. Before I decided to write the Epilogue, I wondered how I could mention it, bring it up, so it could be resolved, and I never figured out a way. I read through these books several times, as you can imagine, and nothing ever popped. Then I had a lightbulb moment and thought writing the Epilogue in Zane’s point of view could be just what I needed to address what could have been considered a minor plot hole, and test Stella and Zane’s love…again. Of course, saying that Zane and Stella have a happily ever after isn’t a spoiler, and they do have a happily ever after as do Gage and Zarah. I was just so happy that I could circle back to book two, the entire premise for the books, if you want me to be perfectly honest, and end in Zane’s voice because I started in Stella’s.

I don’t know…this series is long and maybe no one will ever get to the Epilogue. I’m asking a lot of readers to read 500,000 words, but I hope if readers make it that far, they are as pleased as I am.

Here’s the cover and the blurb for book six.

Gage

Zarah made it clear she wants space to do her own thing, but that doesn’t mean any of this is over. Zane asks Pop and me to look into another murder, and I reluctantly agree. We find some interesting evidence at the crime scene, pointing fingers at people I never considered could be a part of it all.

When Zarah’s therapist kidnaps her, Zane, Stella, and I race against time to figure out where they could have gone, and what she wants with Zarah.

What we find will change my life forever.

Zarah

Breaking up with Gage was the biggest mistake of my life, and he’s the only person I can call when I’m in trouble.

Despite getting back together, he still encourages me to go through with a trip I had planned. Jerricka intercepts me at the airport, and she knows just the right buttons to push to convince me to go with her instead.

Revealing secrets from the past seven years, she explains the real reason why Ash locked me away in Quiet Meadows, why my memories have disappeared, and what she plans to do with me.

I know, without a doubt, if she gets her way, I won’t survive.

I’ll be getting the ARCs together as soon as I possibly can. I’ll have more information when my proofs come. How soon the ARCs will be available depends on if I have any tweaking I need to do to the interiors or the covers and if I run into any issues formatting the ebooks. I shouldn’t, but formatting the ebooks and uploading them to Bookfunnel always takes longer than I think it will. I’ll keep you updated.

In the meantime, don’t forget you can download a copy of My Biggest Mistake as a thank you for stopping by and (hopefully) subscribing to the blog. Lots of news coming your way–don’t miss out!

Welcome to King’s Crossing: A Sneak Peek at Book Five

I’m actually not even sure what to say about book five (she says then ends up writing a 800 word post). Book four ends on a huge cliffhanger, and not everyone is going to like that. That’s fine, and I understood it when I was finished writing it. Like books one through three, where books one and two end on a cliffhanger, books four and five do the same and book six ties it all up.

I don’t know why I wrote a series like this, except that’s how the story came to me, and that’s how I broke up the books while I was writing them. I don’t think I’ll even write another series like this, where a reader has no choice but to start at book one to understand everything that’s going on. Most of my trilogies/series do have some kind of subplot that spans all the books, like my Ghost Town trilogy (who really killed Derrick, and why?), but my Lost & Found trilogy can be read out of order and it wouldn’t take away from your experience too much.

It’s a tricky thing, telling a potential reader they have to start at book one. It can be daunting for that reader if they haven’t read that author before, and it can be expensive, in both money and time. It’s why I started blogging about these books. I wanted to start talking about them, putting information out there, so when they start releasing (or if you’re interested in reading the ARCs when they’re available) you’ll know if it’s something you want to invest in.

Book five picks up two weeks after book four, and if you’re reading these as they release, I apologize in advance. You’ll want to know what Gage is going to do the second book four ends, but book five’s blurb will warn you things will be anything but okay.

Book five could have been considered the “murky middle” of their story, but never once was I slowed down while writing or struggled to figure out where their story was going. If I didn’t know what Zarah and Gage’s story was going to be about when I started thinking about book four, I had no trouble once I started writing. I knew everything that needed to happen to get them from point miserable to point happily ever after.

Here’s the cover and blurb for book five:

Gage

When Zarah had her breakdown, I thought we were over. But I’m a tenacious SOB, and I’m not giving up on her that easily.

It doesn’t matter if someone blows up my truck as a warning to stay away from her.

Pop and I don’t stop investigating what was happening at Quiet Meadows, and after Zarah and I look around the sanatorium to see if it will help loosen some of her memories, I’m convinced the facility is the key to it all.

But there’s more against us than just Zarah’s past, and when she walks away, I have no choice but to let her go and try like hell not to look back.

Zarah

I’m not getting better. My memory is slipping away, and it scares me. The only constant in my life is Gage, but because of my uncertain future, being with him doesn’t bring the joy it could have.

As Gage and his father investigate the deaths of previous patients of Quiet Meadows, I dig into my own past, and we realize there was more to my parents’ plane crash, Max’s murder, and Ash locking me away than we thought.

Through it all, I can’t stop thinking Gage could do better than a broken, damaged girl like me, and believing I’m doing the right thing, I let him go.

What I didn’t understand is I’m stronger with him, and now I have to face the danger I’m in alone.

I know the blurbs give a lot away, and I wrote them knowing they did. But I’ve read blurbs so vague they didn’t tell me anything about the book and how can you want to read a book if you don’t know what it’s about? Perhaps it’s my own downfall as I’ve never cared about spoilers. They don’t ruin the story for me. In fact, hearing huge plot points only makes me want to read the book or watch the show or movie even more. Because you can learn of a specific event, but you’re always going to want to know what happened before and what happened after. Can a 200 word summary ruin a book? Let me know.

As always, thank you giving me a read! I hope you’re getting excited for these… I know I am. Thank you for stopping by and don’t forget to pick up your free copy of My Biggest Mistake. If you’d like, subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss out on upcoming news of my series. Have a great day!
