♥︎♥︎♥︎JANUARY RECAP♥︎♥︎♥︎

Everyone is saying that January went by so slowly but I can’t believe it’s the last day of the month. If you had New Year’s Resolutions, how have they been working out so far?

January was a busy time for me, though it feels like I didn’t get much done. I’ve been editing the next book I’m going to release in September, LOSS AND DAMAGES, but mostly I’ve just been giving myself some down time after editing and launching my King’s Crossing series and revamping an old series, A Rocky Point Wedding. (Don’t ask me how many times I’ve watched Twisters!)

I’ve also been trying to catch a missing cat in our neighborhood. I see him in a park close to my apartment, and I’ve been leaving food out at a shelter under a picnic table. When I go check, sometimes it’s gone and sometimes it’s not. I don’t know who is eating it when it’s gone, but I always fill the bowl. He won’t come to me, darting off whenever he sees me, but I haven’t given up hope that one day he’ll let me catch him.

♥︎♥︎♥︎WHAT’S NEXT♥︎♥︎♥︎

February is going to be a busy month. I’m going to finish the editing pass I’m doing on LOSS AND DAMAGES and start writing WICKED GAMES, a billionaire romantic suspense standalone novel. I have a tentative release date of January 2026. That’s thinking a little too far ahead, but I like having my ducks in a row and having something to look forward to. Having a goal and a plan is what keeps me going and gives me motivation to keep opening my laptop.

It’s nice working on standalones as they aren’t so stressful to put together. When I write a series, I think of it as one long story and handling that many words takes a lot of time and effort. I love it, though, and my next project after WICKED GAMES is a four-book series. I already have two books written that I wrote during the pandemic, but I haven’t looked at them for a long time so I know they’ll need some work. Hopefully after releasing two standalones I’ll be up to the task. After that is anyone’s guess what I’ll be doing, but that is WAY too far ahead to be thinking about right now.

Also in February I’ll finally be able to hold my giveaway…so stay tuned for that.

♥︎♥︎♥︎KING’S CROSSING UPDATE♥︎♥︎♥︎

Four of the six books are out now, and I’ve been getting awesome feedback! Thank you all to everyone who has supported me during the release. They’re books I’m very proud of, and I’m so happy readers are enjoying them! There are still two more books to go, book 4 in March and the last in April! If you’re looking for something to read while waiting for the weather to brighten up and get warm, you can start here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CX7SFGB5

That’s all my news for right now! I hope you all had an amazing start to 2025. Keep in touch!

Throwback Thursday…My very first book

Today is #ThrowbackThursday, and I’m going back to the first book I published. Before I wrote The Corner of 1700 Hamilton, I had started a high fantasy series. I’ve always loved unicorns and dragons, lots of magic, and it was natural to lean that way. But I also knew that the plot was thin and there was too much head-hopping for the series to be publishable.

That’s why I decided to write something specifically to publish. I was surrounded by friends who were publishing, and I wanted to, too. That’s not a great reason to publish anything, and what I wrote and ended up publishing could have waited (or maybe not have been published at all). I don’t regret writing these two novellas–I had a lot of fun. But speculative romantic fiction isn’t something I’ll ever write again, so this is kind of an outlier to my backlist. But, I have a few of those in my earliest books, experimenting with erotica and a sports romance trilogy.

I don’t even know how I came up with Ben and Lila’s story, but it’s a story written from his and hers POV and it was actually pretty challenging. I had to test my skill when writing the same scenes from their different points of view. These days authors write whole books doing that, like EL James’ Fifty Shades of Grey from Christian’s point of view or Stephenie Meyers writing Midnight Sun, Twilight from Edward’s point of view. I only did 25k words and I couldn’t imagine doing a whole book.

But, here’s my favorite scene(s), when Ben finds out Lila’s single:

“A few weeks ago my fiancée left me for another man. She’d been seeing him behind my back. I was stewing about it, I guess.”

“Oh. I’m sorry.” She passed him the flask, and he screwed the little cap back on. He sat it on the ground next to him and it clanked against the train track when it fell over.

“It was for the best. We didn’t love each other. She was just the one who admitted it first.” He thanked Morgan for making him understand that.

“Still though. It’s hard when a relationship ends. How long were you together?” She rushed on, “You don’t have to answer that. It’s too personal. Sorry.”

“No. It’s all right.”

And it was. He liked sitting in the dark with her, talking, the warm buzz of whiskey warming his gut, loosening his tongue.

“It wasn’t too long, actually. But to me it felt right. We were comfortable, never fought. Agreed on everything that mattered. It was like . . . living with my sister, or a friend. We had a camaraderie. Recently I was told that’s not how I should have felt about her, and that’s why she left. To find passion.”

The metallic scent of rocks filled his nose, the mustiness of time gone by with no one to witness its passing.

“She found someone else and left.” He hugged Lila closer, and he grazed his lips across her forehead, unable to stop himself. It didn’t help she was so damn compliant because of the cold. “She found what she was looking for, and I’ve let her go. We’re still friends. She left me her cat.” Ben smiled against the top of Lila’s head when she giggled. “How about you? How long have you and Danny been together?”

It felt natural to ask the question after telling her his story. He was glad he had decided to share, so he had the privilege of asking her questions in return.

“Danny?”

“Yeah. You two seem really close, and I saw how much he loves you. You guys are lucky. I want that, one day.” Ben winced. That sounded like sappy drivel. Maybe he already had too much to drink.

“I suppose I am lucky,” Lila agreed lightly, “but so’s his wife.”

Ben pulled away, appalled. “He’s having an affair with you?”

Lila laughed, the pure sound of it ping-ponging against the tunnel walls like the little silver ball in a pinball machine. “No. Danny’s my brother.”

Ben’s mouth fell open, and he was relieved Lila couldn’t see the astounded look he knew to be on his face. Her brother. Fuck. He never thought that could have been a possibility. They had similar coloring, but never would he have put two and two together to actually get four.

“So who’s the lucky man?” There had to be one; Lila was gorgeous and if he trusted his instincts, and his heart, he believed her to be a smart, funny, and kind woman.

“No one. My last relationship ended a while ago, and I’ve been enjoying being single, waiting for the right man to come along.” She paused, sought his hand in the dark. “I met you in the bar and I was thinking maybe . . . but you seemed so sad, and when you up and left, I thought it was for the best.”

“That’s what I thought too. I thought you were with Danny and it was the right thing for me to do. To go. I didn’t want to though.”

Her hands fluttered along his suit, her fingers skimming his tie, snagging on his tie bar. She cupped his face as she had in The Lucky Clover and reached to place her lips on his. In the complete darkness, her aim was off and their noses bumped. He laughed and tilted his head so their lips met.

***

That’s Ben’s POV, and now, here’s Lila’s:

“A few weeks ago my fiancée left me for another man,” he said bleakly. “She’d been seeing him behind my back. I was stewing about it, I guess.”

Sympathy oozed for him. No wonder he was so skittish. Lila took small comfort it wasn’t her. Well, maybe not all her. “Oh. I’m sorry.”

And she was, for the woman. She couldn’t imagine being stupid enough to let him go.
She handed him the flask; she didn’t want any more.
He screwed the cap back on and set it down. It clanked on the track when it fell over.

“It was for the best. We didn’t love each other. She was just the one who admitted it first.”

Lila was relieved he was free. Maybe she had a chance. “Still though. It’s hard when a relationship ends. How long were you together?” Oh, that sounded nosy. She rushed on, “You don’t have to answer that. It’s too personal. Sorry.”

“No, it’s all right. It wasn’t too long, actually. But to me it felt right. We were comfortable, never fought. Agreed on everything that mattered. It was like . . . living with my sister, or a friend. We had a camaraderie. Recently I was told that’s not how I should have felt about her and that’s why she left. To find passion. She found someone else and left,” Ben said, hugging her and brushing a kiss against her forehead.

Oh God, she was in trouble. Being this close to him, his lips on her skin, made her dizzy.

“She found what she was looking for and I’ve let her go. We’re still friends. She left me her cat.”

That idea seemed so absurd she giggled. Cheat on your fiancé with another man and then ask him to keep your cat. He was a very kind, considerate man to not harbor any ill will towards his ex-fiancée.

“How about you? How long have you and Danny been together?”

Lila’s heart skittered to a stop. She and Danny? How did he get an idea like that? His name caught in her throat. “Danny?”

“Yeah,” Ben said, and Lila couldn’t pinpoint all the feelings behind that one word. Resignation? Sadness? Disappointment? “You two seem close, and I saw how much he loves you. You guys are lucky. I want that, one day.”

“I am lucky.” She was extremely lucky Danny was in her life. She didn’t know what she would do without him. “But so’s his wife.”

Which was true. He treated Mollie very well, and he loved her very much. Lila had been scared, at first, she was losing a brother, but she’d gained a sister. She loved Mollie too, and she adored her little niece.

Ben pulled away. “He’s having an affair with you?” he asked, sounding horrified.

Lila laughed, and the sound echoed off the rock walls. Danny having an affair was as likely as her ever visiting The Maze again. Never in a million years. “No,” she said firmly. “Danny’s my brother.”

“So who is the lucky man?” Ben asked immediately.

“No one. My last relationship ended a while ago and I’ve been enjoying being single, waiting for the right man to come along.”

She’d been enjoying being single, all right. Her relationship with Logan had been a nightmare. It finally took Danny and the threat of a baseball bat to leave her alone.

She took Ben’s hand. “I met you in the bar and I was thinking maybe . . . but you seemed so sad, and when you up and left, I thought maybe it was for the best.”

“That’s what I thought, too. I thought you were with Danny and it was the right thing for me to do. To go. I didn’t want to though.”

She squeezed her eyes shut and made little sparkles burst behind her eyelids. Hearing his low voice confess he hadn’t wanted to leave her behind made her skin prickle and sweat washed over her skin along with . . . desire.

She was alone with Ben in the dark and he’d confessed he wanted her. Kind of. How long had it been since she’d had sex? And not with herself, thankyouverymuch.

He hadn’t wanted to leave her, he was single. He knew now, she was single too. There was nothing stopping them, so she ran her fingers up his chest, over his tie, her fingers skimming over his tie clip.

She cupped his face, her fingers grazing his whiskers.

Lila’s nose bumped his and she was glad he couldn’t see her cheeks flame, but he laughed and adjusted his head so their lips met. He tasted of the whiskey they’d been sipping, his scruff rubbing her lips and cheeks.

I published that back in 2016 or so and its been through a couple rounds of editing and a few covers. It’s not my best work, but I leave it up, proud that it began my journey. I’ve come a long way since, but Ben and Lila will always hold a special place in my heart.

I Could Have Timed that Better…

The presidential inauguration is bringing out a lot of feelings today, so saying I could have timed the release of Shattered Fate is probably an understatement. When I was scheduling the release of the books in my King’s Crossing series, I wasn’t paying attention to anything but the dates, and I think that might have been a mistake.

In general, releasing books during an election year is always like playing Russian Roulette. You just never know what you’re gonna get. For some, it’s just another year, and for others, well. Since you’re reading this, you probably know I’m a liberal, believing everyone should have equal freedoms. I’m a supporter of gay rights, trans rights, women’s rights. I support all people, no matter the color of their skin, and I try to make my author space safe for everyone. I’m white and grew up without a lot of exposure to other cultures and ethnicities, so I know sometimes I fail. When I know I fail, I try to do better.

These next four years aren’t going to be safe for a lot of people, and today, we feel that. And if you don’t feel that, I hope you never do.

With all that being said, the fourth book in my King’s Crossing series is out today. In their own way, Gage, Zarah, Zane, and Stella fight their own kinds of evil, desperately trying to untangle themselves from a web of lies, deceit, and murder. There’s danger lurking around every corner, and Zarah doesn’t know who she can trust…until she meets Gage.

This is book four of a six book series. I hope you’ve been enjoying the story so far, and if you haven’t started yet, please remember to begin with book one. This series is more of a serial and you need to read them in order.

Maybe I chose a good day to release a book after all. Fight for what you need. Fight for others and what they need. My characters fight for themselves, but in doing so, save a lot of other people too weak to defend themselves.

Shattered Fate is available on Kindle, in Kindle Unlimited, and Paperback.

Have a great week!

I’ve Never Been Good at BINGO

Seven days into the new year already. I don’t know how times goes so fast, In some ways, it’s a good thing as temperatures here are dropping, and they won’t stop until April, but in some ways, it’s sad too, because what are we rushing toward? I can’t wait for spring to come, a New Year’s resolution of mine to spend more time outside, but I want to also appreciate every day as they come, find joy again in the little things. It’s difficult when you look out the window and the days are nothing but a blur.

Reading is another thing on my list to enjoy more of, and if that’s on your reading list too, maybe this will help! I made up a BINGO card of character descriptions, mini-plot points, and tropes. Mark what you find in the books you’re reading and maybe you can fill up your card! I’ve never been good at BINGO, those numbers just out of reach. Maybe I’ll have better luck playing this kind.

Until next time!

Happy New Year 2025!

Happy New Year! I hope you had a safe and fun New Year’s Eve and that you plan to sit around, rest, maybe read a good book, and take it easy before the new year swings into gear. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? Any goals? Let me know!

Things here are good! Books 1-3 of my King’s Crossing Series are out, and the reviews are wonderful. I know you all are waiting for the rest, and book 4 will be out January 20th. Right now I’m just finishing up edits on an old series, and I plan to announce the re-launch and offer a giveaway of the paperbacks here.

I didn’t do much for New Year’s Eve. My sister came over for dinner and we played video games with my daughter. We took the Christmas tree down and went for a walk through the city park close to my apartment (and checked the food for a stray cat I’ve been feeding). Kind of chill, but I like bringing in the New Year like that. I think it sets the tone for the rest of the year. My phrase for this year is, “Be still and know,” and I like it because I feel like the last four years have gone by in such a frenzy of writing and health issues that I just need to calm down and breathe. I want to go back to appreciating the little things and not worry so much about getting things done right now. There’s time to read books I didn’t write and go for walks and watch TV and just rest. But, that doesn’t mean the books will stop. I’m going to start editing the next book that will come out after my King’s Crossing series is done releasing, so subscribe to the blog and I’ll keep you updated on Loss and Damages, a Billionaire standalone that will be on preorder hopefully by the end of March for a September release.

As always, if you haven’t picked up My Biggest Mistake, it’s still free with no strings . . . though it would be cool if you would subscribe or bookmark my website so you can check back for news about new releases and giveaways. I’m going to have a busy 2025, so I hope you come along for the ride!

Christmas Update and a Free Book!

black background. book cover that has a man wearing grey scarf. the text says a heartache for christmas is free december 23-15

It’s a busy time of year for all of us, shopping, getting together with friends and family. Dealing with the weather is time-consuming and stressful too, if you live in a place that gets a lot of snow and don’t have any help shoveling. It can be difficult to be happy this time of year, and I hope that even if times are a little tough right now, you can find joy in a phone call with a friend or watching the sun set. Don’t forget to take care of yourself during these busy times and give yourself grace if you’re just not feeling it.

This is the first year in four years that I’ve felt like celebrating. My daughter and I went Christmas shopping last week, bought a few presents and grabbed dinner. That’s not something I bothered to do last year, especially since we went while it was snowing and the wind was whipping. So I know what it’s like to just want the holidays to be over, just to go back to a normal routine. My health isn’t 100% and it never will be, but I’ll take the small win, wrap a couple of presents, and enjoy the wine I’ll let myself drink on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

A Heartache for Christmas, a billionaire, small-town, holiday standalone novel is free on Kindle December 23-25. I loved writing this story, love how Sawyer is so protective of Evie since the second he sees her. This novel is by far one of my favorites, and I hope it will turn out to be one of your favorites, too.

Mondays can be CRUEL!

Most people despise Mondays and I don’t blame them. The start of the work or school week, all we want to do is snuggle in bed and stay warm, especially in this weather. (Where I am in Minnesota, it’s currently 24 degrees! Brrr.)

But my Mondays are usually pretty good. I work through the weekends to have Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays off, and I’ve already done two loads of laundry, made two loaves of banana bread, and taken a shower and got ready for a day of editing. My son teases me for doing my hair and makeup to sit home, but I learned during lockdown if I don’t, I’ll feel like sludge, and that’s no good for my mental health.

So, in all that, I almost forgot that the conclusion to Zane and Stella’s story went live today! CRUEL DREAMS, book three in my King’s Crossing series, is available on Kindle, in Kindle Unlimited, and Paperback. Thank you to those who preordered it–I hope you enjoy their story.

If you were waiting for it, you can find it here at the sale price of $2.99 USD or in KU:

In other news, I’m still polishing up a series I published back in 2020, so I’ll be busy with that until the end of the year at least. I’ll be letting you know of some special re-release things I’m going to do for those. I’m proud of the series and it will shine with a new edit and updated covers.

I have quite a few plans for 2025, but I’ll get to those later. I still want to enjoy what’s left of the year, and I hope you all have a happy holiday season if you celebrate!

Take care and have a good week ahead!

The Last Day of October

Today marks the last day of October and begins the last two months of the year. While this time of year can be melancholy as we prepare to say goodbye to 2024, it can also be exciting, foreboding, exhilarating, and scary. This is also an election year, and depending on who wins, 2025 could be the start of something wonderful or throw us into the depths of despair. Unfortunately, I don’t see any other outcome and I’ll be doing my part on Election Day.

I have a lot to do in the next two months, tying up loose ends, finishing projects, and getting a head start on new things so I can begin 2025 on a positive note. It’s no secret that I haven’t felt well for a long time, and 2024 showed me there was light in the tunnel. Because of what I have and what I’m dealing with, I’ll never see the end of the tunnel, and that’s okay. I can think back to where I was at this time last year and I’m grateful for how far I’ve come and that I had the resources and support to get here.

I’m getting off work early tonight and my sister is coming over to carve pumpkins with my daughter and me. I’m throwing a lasagne in the oven and opening a bottle of wine. If you go out tonight, stay safe! We might go for a walk too, because I love being out at night. The world takes on a different feel in the dark and you can find a sense of magic in the wind rustling the leaves in the trees and the moon’s glow.

Cruel Fate and Cruel Hearts are getting good reviews, and I’m thankful for everyone who has taken the time to read and review. Cruel Dreams, the book that ends the first trilogy in the serial, will be out December 9th, and if you’d like to preorder it, you can find it here. When it releases, it will be available on Kindle, in Kindle Unlimited, and Paperback.

Cruel Hearts is Live!

I’m excited to say that Cruel Hearts is live! Readers have been waiting for this book because the first one, Cruel Fate, ended on a huge cliffhanger. Cruel Hearts ends on a cliffhanger as well, but not as heart-stopping. Cruel Dreams will be available on December 9th, 2024.

Here’s an excerpt from Cruel Hearts:

The Crowne’s kitchen is fully operational, but because of the renovation, there isn’t a chef or staff on site. We’ll have to order our meals from nearby restaurants, and we’ll start tonight when we plan Stella’s death. I can’t think about it without feeling like there are worms wiggling around inside my stomach and I doubt I’ll want to eat anything, but Ash will never give up and it’s only a matter of time before he tries again and succeeds.

“This is nice,” Stella says, tilting her head to look through the windshield.

I turn the engine off and we sit in the quiet car. The sun beating against the glass will turn the interior into an oven, but I just need a few seconds. “You never cared, did you?”

She knows what I’m asking.

“I never did. I saw you and your sad brown eyes. I just wanted your pain to go away. You could have been the poorest man in the city, and I still would have loved you.” She traces her fingers over my cheek. The grooves her fingernails gouged into my skin have crusted over into thick scabs, and her touch lights my skin on fire. I should find some antibiotic cream. “I’m sorry about this.”

I lightly touch the space over her heart. “I’m sorry about this.” I turn my head, and my lips meet her palm.

She lets my lips linger, but I don’t dare hope.

We get out of the car.
